Epoxy resins – a type of one- or two-component synthetic resins that are capable of creating non-melting and insoluble plastics as a result of cross-linking reactions involving epoxy groups.
The components of epoxy resins are usually polyphenols (less often polyglycols) and epichlorohydrin or oligomers with epoxy groups at their ends.
Epoxy resin is, depending on its molecular weight and structure, a viscous liquid or a fusible solid, soluble in ketones and aromatic hydrocarbons. The hardened epoxy resin becomes insoluble and infusible, very adhesive to almost all materials and relatively chemically resistant.
Floor systems
Epoxy resin is also used as a material for making floors. Floors made of this material can be found, among others: in garages, warehouses, utility rooms, boiler rooms or hangars, as well as in living rooms. Their advantages are:
- antistatic, which prevents the attraction of dust, animal hair and other types of pollen,
- anti-slip,
- resistance to liquids, including some acids and invasive cleaning agents,
- jointless structure that prevents moisture from penetrating under the floor,
- easy to maintain hygiene, allowing them to be used, among others, in medical facilities and meat processing plants,
- during flooring, the epoxy resin and hardener react with each other, bonding to the floor itself.
